The Essence of Our Fabrics
The house works exclusively with natural and responsibly sourced fabrics. Woolen satin, silk satin, mulberry crepe silk and certified Calais-Caudry lace form the essence of Emi Mess designs.
Every textile is rigorously selected in France or Italy: Calais-Caudry lace, woven in France on century-old Leavers looms and identifiable by a unique number; woolen satin, emblematic of our House since its creation; mulberry crepe silk, prized for its quality and durability; and timeless essentials such as silk satin, wool flannel, organic cotton jersey, linen, cotton poplin.
The Art of Lace Care
The prestigious Calais-Caudry lace, certified Dentelle de Calais-Caudry®, embodies the highest expression of French heritage. To preserve its delicate beauty, we recommend hand washing only, laid flat to dry in the shade. Use the lightest possible detergent — ideally one formulated for silk or other fine fabrics.
Caring for Silk
Silk is a delicate, natural fabric renowned for its beauty and refinement. Hypoallergenic and thermoregulating, it feels soft against the skin. It keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Naturally absorbent and breathable, silk is ideal for year-round wear. As a natural fiber, it is also fully biodegradable. At Emi Mess, our designs are handcrafted in two exquisite categories of 100% silk: satin silk and mulberry crepe silk.
Satin silk is soft, light and fluid. Its weaving technique creates a smooth, lustrous surface, with an exceptionally silky, almost liquid touch.
Mulberry crepe silk is denser, offering a sumptuous drape. Woven from the most precious and durable silk — from the Bombyx mori silkworm, exclusively fed on mulberry leaves — this fabric is distinguished by its refined crêpe weave. The result is a subtly textured surface with an elegant finish, timeless and enduring.
We recommend professional dry cleaning and always using padded hangers to preserve the silk’s natural shape and drape.
The Art of Wool Care
Wool fabrics — wool flannel and wool satin — among the House’s most cherished fabrics.
Wool satin, a signature material since the creation of Emi Mess, was developed in collaboration with our Italian wool draper, particularly in refined shades of beige. Its hallmark is a smooth, satiny finish.
Each wool satin is meticulously selected by our designer for its weight and thickness, allowing our designs to transcend seasons. Some are tailored for winter warmth, others for summer lightness, and a select few offer versatile year-round elegance — easily recognized through our curated color palette.
To preserve both the natural drape and the satin finish of these wool designs, we recommend professional dry cleaning and always using padded hangers.
The Art of Preservation
Organic cotton jersey, linen, and cotton poplin form the foundation of our design fabrics. To maintain their natural softness and integrity, we recommend gentle washing at 30°C with a laundry net, followed by air drying in the shade — machine drying is never advised.
Using only a minimal amount of the lightest detergent is essential to preserve the natural color and elegance of each creation, ensuring your garments remain as refined as the day they were crafted.
